RETURN TO SAFE LEVEE MENU PAGE

The levee in the pictures below is a "SAFE levee" The water behind this levee is at "Flood Stage" 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The levee is made of local materials and is a similar shape and size of our typical river levees. This levee has no boils, no un-controlled seepage, no un-controlled leaks, no slumping. Even though the water always is near the top there is no danger of failure. This levee will probably be here in 200 or more years. What makes this levee different from our local failure prone levees? These two pictures are of the Oroville After Bay which was built to modern engineering standards...including a clay core.
